Argentine Chittys

Admiral William Brown/Elizabeth Chitty

Born in Ireland, possibly from and illegitimate family, he joined the Royal Navy as a midshipman, a placement secured by Admiral Howe. This did not last long before he moved to the merchant fleet and through that experience became acquainted with the Chittys of Deal.

He married Elizabeth (Isabel) Chitty1787-1859) in London in 1809. They went to Argentina 2 years later where he became the founding father of the Argentine navy and a highly regarded admiral.
